WHY CREATE OUR OWN LABEL

Last summer the owners of the Webber Restaurant Group decided they wanted to be able to offer their guests a wine that was blended specifically for them. Their goal was to create a red blend that appealed to a wide audience and but would also pair with a large number of menu items across our restaurants.

Enter Kate! Kate Webber is our Wine Director and Sommelier, and she couldn’t have been more excited to head to Sonoma earlier this year to Banshee Wines to create this blend for the group.

Kate selected Banshee for a variety of reasons.  One reason is that she enjoys their wine immensely.  But perhaps more importantly, in her own words, “The winemakers and owners at Banshee are really good people. They believe in the land, they believe in people, they believe in community, and they believe in us.”

Armed with a variety of 2014 wines, Kate got to work blending and the result was our new, fantastic red blend, Patriarch.  A wine that many wine-drinkers can enjoy and can pair with menu items across our restaurants including steak tips, meatloaf, lamb and pork.

WHY “PATRIARCH”
The Webber Restaurant Group would not be in existence if it weren’t for Steve Webber, the patriarch himself.  Sixteen years ago, with the purchase of over 500 acres of land, Steve blocked the development of Gibbet Hill in Groton.  After placing most of the land in conservation, he turned the two barns over to his three children, Josh, Jed, and Kate, who subsequently opened the restaurant Gibbet Hill Grill, and the rest, as they say, is history. The label features die cuts mimicking a Hollerith punch card, reflecting Steve’s legendary background in early computer programming.  Patriarch red wine blend is a fitting tribute from his sommelier daughter.

Webber Restaurant Group is thrilled to announce the June 27th release of our new red wine blend, Patriarch.  Our very own sommelier, and Gibbet Hill Grill co-owner, Kate Webber, blended this exclusive California red in January 2016 and it will hit our wine lists later this month.

We are so excited about the launch of our new blend, that we want to give away a $200 gift certificate, to the Webber Restaurant Group restaurant of your choice.  For your chance to win, guess the blend!

Kate gave us this fun hint to help you guess:

This blend will pair well with the Steak Frites (with arugula salad, truffled shoestring fries, and bone marrow butter) at Gibbet Hill Grill, the Steak tips with au poivre and roasted pepper flan at Scarlet Oak Tavern, or the Colorado Lamb Chops (with roasted eggplant and mint raita) at The Bancroft.

Click here to make your guess and enter the contest!  Entries will be accepted until 11pm on June 16th.

Check back on June 2oth when we will announce the winner, the varietals, and share more on Kate’s motivation and inspiration to create this red wine blend!
